Polymerizable Type‑II Photoinitiator Monomer CAS 2149581‑44‑0 Empowers High‑End UV‑Curable Materials

2026-08-17 Shanghai Massive Chemical
A novel polymerizable benzophenone photoinitiator monomer, CAS 2149581‑44‑0 [2‑(4‑benzoylphenoxy)ethyl acrylate], is now commercially available, delivering an effective solution to mitigate migration and leaching issues of conventional small‑molecule photoinitiators for UV‑curing industry.
Common small‑molecule benzophenone photoinitiators tend to migrate, leach and volatilize after UV curing, causing odor, film contamination and safety risks, which restrict their deployment in food‑contact packaging, electronic precision coatings and other demanding applications. Featuring dual‑functional molecular architecture, CAS 2149581‑44‑0 integrates benzophenone photosensitive moiety and polymerizable acrylate double bond. Acting as Type‑II hydrogen‑abstraction photoinitiator, it generates free radicals under UV irradiation in the presence of tertiary‑amine hydrogen donor. Its acrylate group covalently incorporates into cross‑linked polymer networks, significantly suppressing migration, leaching and volatilization, and achieving low‑odor, low‑extractable curing performance.
This monomer exhibits good formulation compatibility, widely applied in UV‑curable coatings, printing inks, overprint varnishes, UV pressure‑sensitive adhesives, structural adhesives, photoresist insulating layers, SLA 3D‑printing resins and photocrosslinkable hydrogels. It improves weather resistance for coatings on plastic, paper and wood substrates; meets strict extractable limits for food‑contact flexible packaging adhesives; reduces device contamination in electronic photosensitive materials; minimizes leachable photo‑active fragments for hydrogel biomaterial formulations.
Recommended loading: 1‑4 wt% in formulation, tertiary‑amine co‑initiator is required. Retaining good curing efficiency of benzophenone system, this product overcomes major drawbacks of small‑molecule initiators and opens new possibilities for advanced UV‑curing formulation development. Bulk samples are available for customer formulation evaluation and industrial validation.
